Sacramento Valley Packet Info

About

Hello. I'm building a rudimentary "notepad" of packet activity in the Sacramento valley. I hope to build this out to a full-blown website on packet here, including an online map showing the locations of all popular nodes and users. If anyone would like to help, please post packet info in the Packet forum on my bulletin board!

The Valley

The Sacramento Valley lies between two mountain ranges in central California. It is bordered to the west by the Diablo range, and to the east by the Sierra Nevadas. The valley is more than 125 miles long, and about 35 miles wide. Most of the valley uses 145.050 for packet. 145.030 is also used, and is common "over the hills" to the west and east.

Packet is known for it's ability to digitally repeat (digipeat) signals between nodes. Nodes can run software which allows them to participate in a wide-area network. The nodes listen and record other stations around, and can provide routing between themselves. This means it is possible to connect to distant nodes outside of the immediate range of your radio and antenna system. Check the Routing section later for more info on common Sacramento Valley paths.
